Recently I've been looking into selling a number of budding ant colonies I've captured this year. Unfortunately, other than a some folks in my school, there are very few people I know who would be interested in purchasing queens. Thus, I began looking into becoming a GAN farmer. This means I can submit some information, my address, email, etc. and be connected to a larger community of potential buyers, and sell my ants locally to them, with AntsCanada's support. And so, I thought this might be beneficial to me. However, I checked the terms and agreements, and it specifically states the following:

"

Never sell ants to anyone except through the GAN Project; this also applies to previous GAN Hosts (customers). Any and all ant purchasing transactions must be made through the GAN Project through AntsCanada.com unless express written permission is obtained from AntsCanada.com via email.

"

So that's that. If I sign up for the GAN Project, I'm stuck with them and can't even sell to anyone here on this forum without express permission. Another thing I noted is that I would have to use my parents as proxies until I'm 18, before I can sell ants independently.

SO. Is it worth it? Should I commit? Any advice is welcome.

Currently raising:

Manica invidia (1 queen +  ~30 workers)

Lasius niger (single queen + ~200+ workers)

Lasius americanus (2 single queen + brood)

Lasius americanus (1 queen + worker, more on the way!)

Tetramorium immigrans (1 queen + ~1200 workers)

Nobody enforces that stuff. Join GAN and sell to whoever you want. It’s not what it used to be, though, so don’t expect tons of customers.
