Disclaimer: I have no pics as none of them are high enough quality and I couldn't get near enough

So I need help ID'ing an ant species found near me; I've gathered that it lives in or on the roots of a tree.

They have a black body and yellowish legs.

I feel like its Lasius Niger but it may not be, what are your thoughts.

Where do you live?

I think even low-quality pic would help identify the ants.

Follow the ID template and attach a photo if you want any hope of identifying the ants.

As ANTdrew mentioned, IDing ants is quite difficult, even with a clear picture for some species. You will need to either rely on your memory to use AntMaps to find a list of ants native to your area and check out images of each manually or follow the ID template here to give ID'ers something to go off of.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8
