I joined this forum very recently. I have posted a few comments and a short thread on springtails so far. But I realized I haven't introduced myself yet. My real name is Chris and I am located in Los Angeles, CA. I have been into ant keeping for 4 years in total. I temporarily left the hobby mid 2023 because I was too busy to maintain all my colonies (I gave them to a friend of mine). I currently only keep isopods and springtails but am going to get a few new colonies soon. I first became interested in myrmecology from seeing ants in the wild around where I live. I was astounded by myrmecocystus and the different classes of majors in camponotus and pheidole. After I gained interest I researched and read articles about ants for a couple years before I got my first colony. In my few years of ant keeping I've kept fungus growers (acromyrmex), Campontous, Myrmecocystus, and harvesters (I have caught Argentine ant queens but I hate them with a passion so I kill them). I dug through my ant supply drawers this week and was pleasantly surprised with what I have. I have 3 mini hearths, 70 test tubes, few hundred cotton balls, shallow feeding dishes, liquid feeders, harvest ant seed mix, 3 ants Canada Camponotus nests with out worlds (gifts from an ant friend of mine), 2 feather weight tweezers, a variety pack of various tweezer shapes, clip on macro lenses, multiple different aspirators, pipets, syringes, recording light, heating cables, 3 ounces of fluon, q-tips, and paint brushes. So I'm all set to start again besides for feeder bugs. As I am rejoining the hobby this year now that I have more time and lots of space I will be very active on this forum. I look forward to a productive year of ant keeping.
