First is a very small ant in the picture the little squares are a 1/4” it was found on mount charlston in Nevada hibernating.
The second might not even be an ant but it was found in San Antonio Texas walking on a curb

I can't ID the first one but when I was in Utah around Moab this summer 2024 in june I found at least a hundred of those exact species of queens, never did get an ID for them though.

Man an army ant! If only I could find a queen idk how they make new colonies do they bud off new queens with workers or do they fly like most ants?

They bud off a portion of the colony. Pretty much impossible to keep long term.
