JenC's Manica invidia (SOCAL)
Introduction
This is my journal for Manica invidia, a species found in some western states. This species isn't really kept that much nowadays due to living in the middle of nowhere and not being as sought after when compared to Myrmecocystus and etc. They're a species that will literally eat everything I give them and they'll even come back to old dried up food when they get hungry. They spread out their workers when they forage and are honestly very easy to handle since they aren't super aggressive. When looking at this species, most would probably mistake them to be Pogonomyrmex due to their similar traits and the same tendency to eat most offered protein sources. I personally like this species very much and would recommend it to those that are willing to give them a try.
May 6th, 2024
I just received this queen today. She came with a clutch of eggs and I fed her some honey a few days later.
May 25th, 2024
The queen is enjoying life and the first larvae have appeared.
June 27th, 2024
I was caring for a friend's colony that somehow already got to workers. My queen is the one on the bottom with big larvae and a pupae.
August 2nd, 2024
Finally got to workers.
August 21st, 2024
They increased in size a little bit and I decided to move them into a petri dish setup.
October 29th, 2024
They got a little bigger. I mainly have these pictures since I was making a video including them.
November 19th, 2024
They had a small boom since the last update. They currently have about 40-60 workers with bigger workers on the way. I will soon have to halt this growth since they need to hibernate.

December 16th, 2024
I threw them into hibernation and deleted all the footage to save space on my phone. Thankfully I made this short video.
February 22nd, 2025
I took them out of hibernation and fed them a special treat. It was fun to watch...
March 1st, 2025
First eggs of the season!!!
March 28th
They have their first clump of pupae and larvae. Most leftovers from last season but promising.
April 12th
The brood pile continues to grow. Their hunger is never-ending...
April 21st
I showered them with argentine brood as gifts and they went rabbits for it. The video shows their most recent state. Lots of brood!!!
