1. Location of collection (ie: park/area, city/town, state/province, country). 

Knoxville, TN, United States

 

2. Date of collection (more important for ID's of queens).

10/24/2024


3. Habitat of collection (ie: desert scrub, oak forest, riparian, etc.).

Was just on a railing at my work outside, in downtown


4. Length (to the nearest millimeter or 1/16th of an inch.)

I wasnt able to find a ruler, but if you look at the picture, I put a penny in it for perspective.


5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture 

Either Deep red or black


6. Distinguishing characteristics

Tiny


7. Anything else distinctive

I think its a queen?


8. Nest description

NA

 

9. Nuptial flight time and date

Found it mid day outside on railing

Looks like Crematogaster, other angles of her, like from the top, would be helpful.

Due to time of year, do you think C. lineolata? This is the second one I've found in the last 5 days.

It could be Lineolata or Ashmeadi.

C. lineolata have many erect hairs on the pronotum (upper part of the thorax). C. cerasi only have one or two at each corner of the pronotum.
