Is getting a permit worth it? I have a few questions on the topic:

1. If I get a permit to collect ants from a state, can I also sell ants to that same state?

2. How hard is it to get a permit? (cost, time, ect)

3. Can I let my friends use my permits?

And many Carnivorous plants such as: Dionea muscipula (fly trap), Sarracenia x 'Fiona' ( American Pitcher plant), Nepenthese ventrata (Tropical Pitcher plant), and Pinguicula agnata x emarginata (Butterwort) (show off your plants here)

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores it's provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. Proverbs 6: 6-8

I can just say if you are very patient it can be worth it. It mostly takes 4+ weeks for the permits to be approved.

they will reject it if it's a bad pest.  adventive might be accepted if its not known to cause an economic or ecological impact.

Native species are generally acceptable if they arent invasives in other countries.

some natives will probably be declined too though- Formica propinqua is a beautiful native species to CA, but because it's a known vineyard pest it may be rejected for shipping to AZ and other states with viticultural areas.

1. collecting and selling require two different permits
2. pretty time consuming, but it is free
3. no

You will also need to create an account and be over 18 with a drivers license. I highly recommend just sticking to native ants and spending the time applying for a permit blacklighting, or spent looking for queens. If you spent the same amount of time working you could probably afford the blacklight setup.

In my opinion getting a permit is probably the best thing you can do as an ant keeper because by getting one you can all types of ants from all over the US or world.

Here is where I differ. Getting permits for personal use can be great, but it also makes the one who gets it never content with the ants they have. It is similar to money in many ways, the more you have the more you want. There are many cool native ants in ones area, and some of them are really rare. I am certain there are many undiscovered ones as well. Focusing on collecting rare and unusual ants in your native area is something I would encourage first before someone applies for a permit only a few years after ant keeping.

I must say i find your queston rather off putting.

you have aked:

Is it worth it to be a lawful member of my civilztion?

I sure hope you don't wind up with the responsability of disposing of toxic waste one day with that sort attitude about laws needing to be 'worth it' it to you personally to bother following them.

Reading between the lines here, it seems you are under the impression that he intends to break the law ("member of my civilization", "with that sort of attitude about laws"). He is asking if he should get permits to import ants or just not get permits and be content with the native species he has. Nothing in that post was indicative of intent to break the law.
