Here begins my Pogonomyrmex rugosus journal. Enjoy!

The colony, which used to have 40+ workers, recently got sick, and now only 11 remain.

I keep:

Pogonomyrmex Rugosus journal
Myrmecocystus Deplisis journal
Monomorium ergatogyn Journal

And many Carnivorous plants such as:

Dionea (fly trap), Sarracenia x 'Fiona' ( American Pitcher plant), Nepenthese ventrata (Tropical Pitcher plant), and Pinguicula agnata x emarginata (Butterwort)

Currently keeping:

 

1x Formica subsericea, (used to be polygynous) 15+ workers with 4 pupa (Idk why they still have)

1x Lasius umbratus, (Workers accepted) 5+ workers with host brood

1x Ponera pennsylvanica, just queen

Also is their nest a bit too big? (very big in fact) they say they should fill at least 20 present. Maybe they are dying from stress of the giant space

I would highly recommend doing this right now. That nest is fit for a colony of hundreds to thousands of ants. A simple test tube setup placed into an outworld is all you need, and the ants should grow faster that way. Alternatively, you can attempt a dirt setup, which data collected by Utah Ants makes this appear to be the most effective setup for Pogonomyrmex.

This is why I wait until my colonies get a healthy number of nanitics to start a journal. I would have a lot more dud journals if I posted one on every queen I caught.

Bit hard to tell from that pic the layout.  Can you describe the design a bit.

 

It's made of perfect cast, with a nest separated by from the rest by a plastic container.

The concept is an all in one nest with the nest inside outworld. The problem is you don’t have any way to hydrate the nest. I would do it like this. You need to have a water tower that you can add water from outside the nest. Optional is a hole for a “nest mate” for drinking
