Hi, this is the start of my Monomorium Ergatogyna colony!
I just caught them today, under a rock in my backyard.
The reason I didn't capture all of them is because I enjoy watching the chains they form in my yard.

I keep:

pogonomyrmex rugosus

myrmecocystus depilis

monomorium ergatogyna

And many Carnivorous plants such as:

Dionea (fly trap), Sarracenia x 'Fiona' ( American Pitcher plant), Nepenthese ventrata (Tropical Pitcher plant), and Pinguicula agnata x emarginata (Butterwort) (show off your plants here)

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores it's provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. Proverbs 6: 6-8

2 or more ant colonies coming soon...

I'd recommend keeping them in a tube until more workers mature, since an outworld of that size might be a bit large for them. Plus, the colony could move under the nest if there's enough of a gap to do so.

They've tried to get under the nest, but the queens are too big and only the smallest workers fit. But I'll take the test tube into consideration.

If you are getting a wild colony you should get all the workers and brood you can.

Sooo, long story short, the colony escaped, queens and all, but I've re-found the other colony outside, and this time I'll make the encloser more secure.

(Update 10/7/2024)

I can confirm that the colony is SOMEWHERE in my room, as I have seen a few worker wandering around. They have once again escaped over the fluon barrier.

That works with a lid on, but how will you feed them without removing the lid?

I am pretty sure that they will not be always on the lid, plus you can just dump some that have escaped back in

Currently keeping:

1x Formica subsericea, (used to be polygynous) 15+ workers with 4 pupa (Idk why they still have)

1x Lasius umbratus, (Workers accepted) 5+ workers with host brood

1x Ponera pennsylvanica, just queen

As you watch your ants march, remember: every journey begins with a single step (or queen)-not just towards you, but towards a future woven by diligence and shared dreams - Me

Try that over and over again with a mature colony of these with thousands of workers. It gets irritating fast.

Hahaha if they get on the lid I'll just throw them out. It sounds like the colonies get big, so they won't be missed.
