I’m excited to announce the launch of a new project called AntCraft!

AntCraft is a parametric, 3D-printable, modular, and open-source formicarium project that anyone can easily create and customize.

When you use AntCraft, you’ll fill out a simple form with details such as your ants' size, nest type, nest dimensions, test tube diameter, and more. From this, a customized nest base is automatically generated, fully compatible with any other AntCraft nests.

The main goal of this project is to allow users to generate a 3D nest frame, onto which they can design their own galleries and features. Any updates or improvements made to the base model will be directly applicable to all custom versions, ensuring that feedback and new ideas from the community benefit everyone.

To learn more, I’ve created a wiki page with detailed information: https://github.com/n...t/AntCraft/wiki

Here’s an example of a nest you can create with AntCraft:

Thank you so much for this post! As a mechanical engineer, I have been waiting for the day open source 3D nests became a thing. I appreciate the generation feature as well, that makes things really unique for each user. I look forward to trying this in the future.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

You are very welcome,
I'm comming from the Open-Source software, and the sharing and versionning system of Onshape is a major feature in my point of view.

Oh man so excited about this stuff!

I'm kind of a blender hobbiest, and enjoy trying out formicarium designs. So nice that you've got this option out there, I bet it's gonna become very popular.

Currently raising:

Myrmica rubra (1 queen +  ~5 workers)

Lasius niger (single queen + ~90+ workers)

Lasius neoniger (3 single queen + brood)

Formica spp. (Queen [likely parasitic, needs brood])

Formica pacifica (Queen)

Also keeping a friend's tetramorium immigrans for the foreseeable future. Thanks CoffeBlock!

I hope so! If it become popular we could see a "standards" emerge between nests and have plenty of compatible options to create crazy stuff easily.
