When I want to add decorative items like stones, tree branches etc. either something I collected from outside or something purchased but not specifically for a formicarium, what is the safe procedure to follow ? The stones are easy to boil and/or freeze but if boiling damages the material, is the method always freezing ? For how long ?

I don’t know much about this but you can probably look up a video about how to prepare wood from outside for an aquarium.

Boiling is safe for most wood and all rocks I've tried.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores it's provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. Proverbs 6: 6-8

Multiple ant colonies coming soon...

After boiling the wood, do you do something special to dry it ? or just wait

Rocks don’t need any special treatment. Boiling wood can be a good idea to prevent unwanted hitchhikers.
"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25
Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

You can try to towel dry it but you'd still have to wait.
