What Pheidole sp should I get?

Hey everyone, I've been looking for my next colony, and pheidole caught my eye because of their supermajors. I am waiting for Hyatti to come back in stock in Antopia usa, buy I was wondering if there might be better species for a first time pheidole keeper.


I keep:

(angry) Pogonomyrmex Rugosus,
(stubborn) Myrmecocystus Deplisis
Tetramorium Immigrans
Monomorium Minimum

And many Carnivorous plants such as:

Dionea (fly trap)

Sarracenia x 'Fiona' ( American Pitcher plant)

Nepenthese ventrata (Tropical Pitcher plant

Pinguicula agnata x emarginata (Butterwort)

Hey everyone, I've been looking for my next colony, and pheidole caught my eye because of their supermajors. I am waiting for Hyatti to come back in stock in Antopia usa, buy I was wondering if there might be better species for a first time pheidole keeper.

One note they don't have super majors. I would recommend P.bicarinata check out ANTdrew's colony as it is full of info.

I second P. bicarinata. Pheidole in my area are done flying for sure.

The most "fun" Pheidole you can find in California would have to be the main group (excludes P. sciophila) P. fallax-group species such as the P. hyatti you have your eyes on.

It  takes a year or two for them to grow very big.

A few thousand I would say. But with optimal conditions they may grow with 200-400 workers within a year.

And what would be a good formicarium for them when they are full grown? I buy from THA because I'm bad at diy.

They are also quite affordable so that helps. Por Amor also makes really unique products and they have many affordable options to choose from.

I would say 1. But I wouldn't worry about that till you even have them to that size.

I Would not recommend it for it is made of  cheap plastic. (especially the nest)
