Myrmica sp. flew in the central ND town of New Salem on 9/20. We were driving through the state and stopped at Salem Sue, the world's largest Holstein cow, of course, and came across this nuptial flight at the top of a large hill. I got a few minutes of assorted footage -- enjoy.

That looks like quite a large flight I never get to see Myrmica here do anything like that

Myrmica here tend to have a "nuptial gathering" but I'm not 100% sure. First, I've only seen one Myrmica sp. fly and second, their alates gradually deplete over the course of summer for whatever reason.

I've seen a few myrmica having flights over the last month in a few different places,

Myrmica tend to fly here in the late summer...But I'll see dealates running around for a little while longer. I presume since they're semi-claustral ....
