What about ice cold but not freezing temp ? Lets say between 0C-4C. Is this enough to "stun" insects ?

This can slow ants and one of the ways of transferring colonies, or cleaning an active nest, includes a short period (around 30mins) in the fridge to make them sluggish and calm.

However, this is NOT recommended for killing.

The chilling but not freezing is not recommended on a regular basis and not for longer periods (except, of course, if ants are put into hibernation).

Killing should be quick, so putting them into a -20 freezer is the fastest way to go.
