Yeah, my Pheidole likes wet area and in the garden, the snails had spread the moss somehow onto the formicarium and the moss seems be taken up the mouldy and wet areas.

That's interesting that it's always that species that gets the parasitic mites. I guess it's a good thing.

Mine only produced queen alates this summer. 1 of the new queens shredded her wings, maybe she got stuck in the nest for too long.

The queen was about 2 years old when alates were produced. However, she was outside for a year without much of food and brood. Then I brood boosted her and the colony just expanded crazily, partly also because they got constant access to foods and safe indoor.
