I have a queen brachymyrmex patagonicus that is going to have workers soon (she has three pupae and too many larvae to count) and I want to know what food is best for brachymyrmex.

I have a queen brachymyrmex patagonicus that is going to have workers soon (she has three pupae and too many larvae to count) and I want to know what food is best for brachymyrmex.

The usual protein and carbohydrates will do for this species. They like honey and sugar water as carbohydrates and I believe they would like mealworms, crickets, roaches or practically any insect (add more variation to protein as the colony gets bigger) from what I’ve seen as they form massive supercolonies with multiple queens. This species diet is similar to that of S. molesta (while in captivity) so I feed Brachymyrmex what ever S. molesta will eat. Hope the his helps and good luck with your colony!

I've seen people feed them mostly the same as other ants cars and protien.

they'll eat seeds too.  xyloni is known for it.  bermuda grass seeds would probably be acceptable.

Will they eat the grass seed that you can find in common grass?

Get some mealworms and crickets at Petsmart. Save the mealworms in the fridge and freeze the crickets. For carbs, mix up sugar water at a 4:1 ratio of water to sugar. You can supplement with some cooked meats or egg every once in a while. They will not need anything beyond that.
