People think that the small V. lariversi is the only yellow harvester in California, but I don't think they have seen these before. This is the former Veromessor andrei subsp. flavus which was synonymized with V. andrei. Compared to V. larviersi these are agressive, larger in size, larger colonies, and more. These were found once in 1917 and had never been located again until I found them.

I think so too. I put it on inaturalist but no one knows what it is. I would love to find the colony it came from.

 Why keep ants that aren't found in your yard?

There are so many fascinating ants right were you live!

I disagree with the keeping/buying of ants that are not found in your area.

First of ! my equipment is a nice macro lens for my samsung note, now I'm looking into real equipment and there for am open to you guys suggestions regarding Camera, Macro Lens, Diffuser and or led Light spot.

At the moment where i am writing this i have only scratched the surface of all your clichés and i am enthusiastic to dig in deeper and have a wonderful journey in the midst of our 6 legged friends.

And for the last picture, my first Myrmecia, i had only read about their behavior an before then

so having this massive red wingless wasp 50 cm from me on my desk was quite something

especialy if you consider that the look and position she has on the pic she had for 2 hours staring at ME

A Myrmecia gulosa (Red Bull Ant) that I saw in Glen Aplin, Qld. These ants were everywhere and very big and aggressive.
