Three new ant species that I found while on a bush walk yesterday in Dularcha N.P. in Landsborough, Qld. A Meranoplus hirsutus, Dolichoderus extensispinus and Leptomyrmex rufithorax.

Looks like the Leptomyrmex rufithorax is demonstrating a threat posture!
Yes, really hard to get a photo of them when they aren't doing that. They are very alert ants. They don't really stop moving either.
Looks really nice. Can’t stop thinking it has 6 spider-like legs.

They are certainly a unique looking ant. I found my first colony of them the same day I took the photos. It was in an embankment on the side of a track. Nothing fancy about it and if I hadn't seen them coming and going from it you wouldn't know it was there. There are a few more species that live in my area so I am hoping to find them too.

Got a neat picture of my captive Odonotmachus. We all still know that photography in nature is probably one of the better types though.

Isn't that a Myrmecia male?

I wasn't 100% before posting. I am bad at ID's and ant anatomy. I will just stick to photographing them.

My mistake. I am not the best at ID and ant anatomy.

I've been playing around with lighting a bit. Here are some images that use a contrast of light and dark to highlight the natural features of the ants.
