Someone should make a small ant war by putting exactly 1 gram of of an ant species into a bowl and then putting exactly 1 gram of a different ant species. This looks like a fair battle

Here this guys!? We can finally mercilessly kill ants!
Man... Some people need to learn that creatures on Earth aren't playthings to us humans.

Humans keep them in test tubes for months and you are telling me they are not toys... May I ask why do you kill insects before feeding the ants with them?

The chances of a queen ant surviving her first day in the wild is legit 0.0001%. Are you saying that all pets are playthings you humans can play around with? You think it would be right to put 10 dogs against 10 cats and watch them rip each other to death?! I kill insects so my ants have something to eat! That is the natural order! Yeesh!

Nothing compared to the other pictures on this thread, but here's one of my several Lasius cf. umbratus queens:

I went on a little anting foray to check up on a local Aphaenogaster tennesseensis colony (which I am eagerly awaiting their nuptial flight). They live in the same rotting stump as these C. pennsylvanicus, and the two get along pretty amicably on the outside. They received a sugary treat from yours truly.

I forgot the memory card for my camcorder, and then broke the lens on my other camera the moment I reached into my bag. I was still able to get some decent shots by holding the lens together, and aiming the flash, and snapping the picture...

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.
