Over the years I have been plagued by these welts that randomly appear after a short stinging sensation. Today I was lucky enough to capture the culprit in the act. This one got my neck in 3 different areas as I walked inside hoping not to kill whatever it was and thereby unable to see what this demon his.
The pain usually starts as a stinging sensation similar to that of a yellow jacket, then a nickel sized welt appears which sticks around for 3-4 days. I encounter these in wooded areas usually when I'm clearing brush or working in think brush.
This was taken under a jewelers loupe.
