As far as I know there is no Linepithema humile in the state.

I currently maintain a site dedicated to the hyper-diverse myrmicine genus Pheidole.:

“Red velvet ants” aren’t ants, but rather wingless wasps.

there are.  the problem is google's AI is actually just gleaning things from pages that have florida anywhere on it.  you could get results of species from florida canyon in az, etc

honestly it seems like they are literally trying to dumb everyone down, the new search is totally worthless and results in misidentifications.  some of these could kill people.

id imagine some people foolish enough to trust the AI would probably eat a poisonous mushroom.

Interesting, thanks. I looked it up in The Ants of FL by Deyrup, and yes, L. humile is in there, but he mentions that some of its records are very old and are not thriving (he knew of 2 species in south florida, and it just disappeared after awhile)

Google's AI search is complete garbage. Here's a short highlight reel.

That doesn’t seem wrong. As a Floridian, I see banded sugar ants each day. You guys who think Camponotus floridanus live here are wrong, not google.

I guess yellow crazy ants are native to my state, I’m going to go release some in the Everglades now.
