I am very eager this year. I have been out several trips in the woods looking under stones but i guess its to early! We did have 23°C celius  (73.4 °F) two days with a little rain in the night a few days ago and in europe there should be 3 spieces flying right now.

Am just crazy about finding some queens this season because the last 2 seasons i did not find any (i was lazy about it) so this season I'm not missing.. just thinking what my colony could have look like make me sadlulz

But this forecast should not make perfect but thinking we had sun the last days and we get a day like this.. It should be worth loading up on test tubes and take a stroll today?

The forecast numbers mean 53°F - 57°F

Depends on the species. In the US or in Pennsylvania at least; we only have flights at 70 º F or above, 70 º F usually being the minimum and the maximum being 82 - 85 º F in Pennsylvania for one.

Keeping:

3x - S. molesta (colonies and single queen)                1x - C. nearcticus (founding but no eggs)   (y) New!

1x - C. chromaiodes (colony)                                       1x - C. subbarbatus (founding)

1x - F. subsericea (founding)                                        1x - T. sessile (mega colony)

3x - P. imparis (colonies)

2x - L. neoniger (founding)

Hmm yeah not even luck seeing any bugs at all today! I was thinking a quick tour to the woods and lift some stones but... ‍♂‍♂‍♂

73 is honestly pretty cold for anything to fly. Wait for more consistent warmth.

As a rule you never go out for queens until it’s consistently 75 degrees across most of the day (day as in when the sun is up). If you are having trouble finding queens, leave a UV flashlight on outside, and queens will be attracted to the light.

Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.

No, UV flashlights will not attract much. You need a stronger blacklight bulb shining on a sheet.
