I watched Empire of the Ants this morning. It's a late 1970s film that I thought would be horrible, but it actually was not as bad as I thought.

What other movies did you like that has ants in them?

A classic one...Marabunta: Legion of Fire Killer Ants (1998)

I am watching it right now, and seems ok. However, it has the usual case of deliberately mid-identifying species.

I believe "Marabunta" refers to army ants like Eciton, but the picture the entomologist shows to police and says was a "soldier ant"  is actually another ant species...looks like Myrmoteras  (n)

Not a horror movie...

but just watched the 1996 movie "Mikrokosmos", a French movie about insects living in a meadow.

Notable because it features quite a few scenes with my beloved Messor barbarus.

And that horrified look of that major when the storm blows away her transported seed....

Thanks for the recommendation—I'm always on the lookout for some good sci-fi or horror flicks. "Marabunta: Legion of Fire Killer Ants" sounds intriguing, although I'm with you on the frustration of misidentified species. It can be a bit distracting when movies take liberties with the science, but hey, sometimes you just gotta roll with it for the entertainment value, right?

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I remember it being one of those entertainingly cheesy flicks that you can't help but enjoy with a big bowl of popcorn. I totally get what you mean about the misidentification of ant species—it's a common trope in these kinds of movies. But hey, as long as it doesn't bug you too much (pun intended), it's all good fun, right? Also, thanks for sharing that YouTube link! Always cool to see some behind-the-scenes stuff. It's awesome to jump into conversations like this. I'm always on the lookout for the best movies in theaters now! Any other recommendations for sci-fi or horror movies with a unique twist?

Can't forget those 2 ant animated movies....grossly bad in the science (which is annoying), but entertaining at times...
