I thought I had to share....
Dinomyrmex gigas (formerly Camponotus gigas), the Asian giant wood ant.
One of the largest ants of the world. Very awesome.  :D
I bought a taxidermied specimen from a insect taxidermy website.
With nearly 3cm body length, it is nearly as big as my pinky finger! It is now proudly displayed on top of my ant shelf. :) :) :)

What a beautiful specimen!

The ant corner of my flat :)
(as you can clearly see, this is a species that probably won't fit into a mini hearth)

I want to go to Borneo someday and watch the colonies in the wild. I'm very tempted to get one of those worker ants for my wall. But I do worry about their habitat. Fortunately they are doing OK for the time being. But they live in the forests and all forests are threatened.

Starting this July I'm posting videos of my ants every week on youTube.

I like to make relaxing videos that capture the joy of watching ants.

If that sounds like your kind of thing... follow me >here<

Yeah, that is true.

Plus, these ants need a lot of space.

Seeing them in their natural habitat would be really amazing.

I especially like that instead of starting a wasteful full-on war, they have these ritual battles at the borders where only a few ants fight in ritual fights. Very amazing.

Since people in the Facebookgroup asked, I took a shot using a measuring tape. It is a metric tape, so these are centimetres. Not inches.

Good, I hate inches. I don’t understand why America has this weird system where size stops at inches, and all you can do is divide them into weird portions. We use 12 inches for a foot instead of say, 10 millimeters for a centimeter. All it does is make it annoying to measure things, especially for group projects with people outside of the U.S.

Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.
