So on October 24th I ordered a second Pogonomyrmex occidentalis colony because I've been enjoying my first colony so much. This time I went with a XL double chamber mini hearth to start out with. I expect it will take a while to ship, as Mack is still on the tail end of busy season. When they arrive I will be sure to update you all.

It really depends on when you order. Things are slowing down for them now I think.

 

The colony is moving over, Queen and larvae already in the mini hearth XL. Just waiting for them to finish moving the seeds.

We are completely moved in. The colony seems happy and has been collecting seeds and fruit flies from the foraging area.

Colony seems to be doing well. I haven't noticed any new eggs yet, but their larvae are growing.

It's looking like we should get a new worker soon, currently it's hard to photograph the eggs or most of the colony. They like to hangout on the ceiling of the nest.

This colony seems to maybe be taking a break. Last pupae is about to enclose. I thought I saw an egg pile the other day. Maybe I was wrong? :thinking:

This colony seems to be doing fine. Workers seem to be hiding those eggs I spotted, haven't seen any larvae yet.

Do yours have any trouble climbing up into the outworld? I’ve only just got my forty worker colony so I’m wondering if they’ll have any trouble.

Do yours have any trouble climbing up into the outworld? I’ve only just got my forty worker colony so I’m wondering if they’ll have any trouble.

 

The workers can only just barely climb in corners, I put fluon in the outworld to help with this.

Sorry I meant getting up into the outworld from the nest lol. That is still helpful though thanks.

Trying to find the brood for this colony can be a challenge sometimes. Thankfully a worker was on the seed pile with some eggs and larvae today.

To help with climbing, you can pull out the rubber tube and scratch up the plaster a bit. Needle nose pliers will do the trick.
