Hey! My name is CJ. I live way down in Brownsville, TX. Recently quit my job and re-enrolled in school full time to finally finish my bachelor's degree. With all my extra free time I decided to rediscover some of my hobbies like gardening, video games and now ant keeping. I have a small colony of a. versicolor in a petri dish formicarium. I find leaf cutters to be really interesting and would like to found colonies of each species I have access to here. Looking forward to nuptial flights of some Atta later this year. It's been really fun learning as much as I can about the hobby and this forum has been extremely helpful.

I get the feeling that ant keeping went through a period of increased interest due to the pandemic (i think lots of indoor hobbies did) and has now calmed down a little bit, returning to more normal levels of interest? Would that be accurate?

Anyway. If anyone else is located in or near the Rio Grande Valley, feel free to reach out!

Welcome to the hobby! That’s a very accurate description of the past few years in ant-keeping. As an example, in 2020 I made about $2,000 selling common ant species. Last year I made maybe $100.
