CPBBD is a youTube I enjoy where a guy walks around talking about various plants. It's really interesting. Now and then I'll see ants in the background so I made a game of trying to identify each ant. I'd leave a comment that would say things like "Cephalotes sp. the 'turtle ant' makes a cameo at 3:35 if you'd like to see the ant again!" and sometimes I'd chat with other people in the comments about the ants. Spotting ants in the botany videos became my little game.
Well today I got a shout out because I guess all the ant comments were getting to him. It's at 15:20 or so. Fair warning the guy says a lot of swears but I don't think he can help it and he sometimes rants about urban sprawl too, but don't we all?

And what great ants too! I think it's Formica integroides the thatching vinegar ant.
They are doing a thatching ant behavior in the video: "heat harvesting" the ground is cold but the sun is shining. The ants transfer warmth to the nest by sitting in the sun until they are warm then going into the nest until they are cold. Over & over, slowly building up heat.
Isn't that fun!
