Hello,

I'm Favian and I've always loved ants. I've kept colonies when I lived in Puerto Rico in dirt jars after my Uncle Milton ant farm cracked lol. But once I started college and moved to the states, life got busy and I put ant keeping to the side. That was 15 years ago, but I guess is never too late to start again, specially with all the new formicarium styles available. I currently have a greenhouse filled with nepenthes and other carnivorous plants but I want to start and dedicate time to my other passion, which have always been, ants.

Small world! I was just reading pitcherplants proboards forum last night! And saw your green house set up with the white pots! This is such a coincidence! I used to own carnivorous plants and was a member of various forums over the years, but I lost interest I guess because of their fiddly care requirements but I still enjoy reading about them on forums, especially since that nepenthes forum has many great photographers who take us on trips to exotic locals through their beautiful photos.

 

I think with Nepenthes I really need a green house set up to be successful.

 

I was thinking of having a set up with a N. bicalcarata. Anyway nice to know others here share the cp interests. Welcome to the forum!

Hey I didn't mean to weird you out lol, just saw this post in the 'recent posts' section and recognized your avatar from that other forum.

 

Anyway if your interested in Nepenthes you may happen to also be interested in an orchid called Phragmipedium kovachii, it's a newly discovered orchid from Peru and I kind of had an 'orchid fever' phase after my Nepenthes phase lol. I find orchid growers only grow orchids, and likewise nep growers only grow neps, neither share an interest in the other, so thought there was no harm in letting you know about this plant in case you were not familiar with it.

 

I would probably still be into orchids if I could easily acquire a kovachii here, but sadly they are so expensive and difficult to get here in Australia that it makes it unfeasible for me to pursue that interest as I can't afford to buy one and have it die on me; which is something that they do often as they can be tricky to care for.
