Okay so I'm starting a new thread cuz the previous one was kinda ruined.

Hi everyone! I'm going to document every ant species I encounter in Malaysia. If you are a fellow Malaysian willing to share your finds, go ahead! Here is a Paraparatrechina sp alate queen, a Parvaponera darwinii alate queen, and an oh so cool Polyrhachis bihamata worker

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): ★ Camponotus irritans inferior, ★ Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, ★ Nylanderia sp., ★ Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), ★ Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

I had a Parvaponera darwinii queen before, it was hard to raise her and she rejects everything I give her, and she escaped.


Began antkeeping in 2018  :)

I had a Parvaponera darwinii queen before, it was hard to raise her and she rejects everything I give her, and she escaped.

I kept them 3 times. Apparently they only eat springtails... Mine died without laying. Also they are hypogaeic witch may explain why

This thread did not age well. Anyway, since the colonies I keep count as Malaysian species I'll just do a quick photo dump every now and then when I get a new species that I haven't kept/photographed.

Man, I wish I could go to SE Asia and check out the sheer number of insect species there...
