Caught this queen in late August. She is approximately 5 1/2 millimeters. I caught her in my backyard, and didn't find any Myrmica nests nearby. I am in southeastern Michigan, Detroit area.
Myrmica spp. are hard to identify for experts with a microscope, but based on dark color, apparent shininess (lack of rugae) of the top of the postpetiole, and location, a reasonable guess is M. detritinodis.
