I'm planing on getting some blue pva sponges for next anting season but I don't what size to get nor what size of tubes. I plan on catching a few different species and one of them is honey pot ants and I'm wondering what size test tubes and sponges I should get to found Myrmecocystus queens in. What do you guys think?

From my experience larger species would be fine in a tube that’s 18-20mm in diameter and smaller species would be fine in 16-18mm.

Agreed. Species like mexicanus should be in at least 18mm, while smaller ones like mimicus is probably fine in 16mm, although 18 is preferred. I personally prefer the 18mm tube the best as is is a good middle between 16 and 20, which are too small and too big respectively in my opinion. Also, side note: make sure to add sand or some other substrate

Thanks guys! I plan on catching a medium sized species of honey pot so I think I will just get a full order of 18mm sponges and tubes, plus I also want to catch some Camponotus so those sizes will be a good fit for both.
