Keeper of:
Camponotus castaneus | 20-25 workers
Tetramorium Immigrans | 1,000+ workers (yes I gave them a brood boost don’t be salty!)
Aphaenogaster Rudis | 16 workers
Pheidole bicarinata | 50-60 workers

Ants are just better.

Autistic

(Forgive me, I’m autistic myself and couldn’t resist since there seems to be a lot of us in the hobby, probably due to how we hyperfixate on things we enjoy)

Instant Death (two words and depending on the species you keep)

But a more positive word would be exciting (lets hope no new antkeepers read the above. if you are new that was completly a joke and please do not just yeet your ants in the trash after that).

Edit: I put instant death because a colony of teramorium escaped through a crack in the outworld. If my mom saw that, I would probably have to say goodby to antkeeping life

Been keeping ants since January of 2021

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

Not autistic, but similar issue with the hyperfixation-

ADHD here.

ADHD is under the spectrum iirc, haha. I have hyperfixations too, but I've never been diagnosed with autism related disorders.

I would describe the ant-keeping community using the word odd. Not saying it's bad, but most normal people would find keeping ants in captivity as an odd and somewhat concerning behavior haha.

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

ADHD and autism are different disorders but quite similar in symptoms. Most autistics have both.
