Ants are cute, that's that.

Judging by the fact that all the records come from santa catalina and surrounding islands (no mainland records), i would say your chances of finding them are pretty low.
There's three on mainland.
Edit: I am wrong about this. The few mainland records are misidentified C. hyatti.

My apologies for bringing back a dead thread, but I'd be interested in acquiring this species if it's possible to. iNaturalist lists them as "endangered", so I'm not sure if I'll be able to collect any even if it's the mainland. Anyone have information on the legalities of collecting a possibly endangered ant species? Then again, Dorymyrmex insanus is listed as "vulnerable", but they're virtually almost everywhere in California.

I do not think they are formally listed as being endangered. Due to the amount of protected land in their limited range, you'd be best off getting permission from a land owner to collect within their private property.
