As some of you may know I recently collected a Ponera Pennsylvanica colony, a species I've been wanting for a while, and they have been doing great! I feed them springtails from my two colonies every day or sometimes I skip one, but they always come to the surface right away and it's fun watching the ants find the springtails, bite and sting them, and bring them down into their dirt tunnels. The 4 queens rarely come to the surface, and there are a few queen alates. Yourbasicantkeeper suggested in another topic I started that one of the queens might be unfertilized.
Usually the lid is closed and the darkness simulates the underside of a rock, allowing the workers to fell comfortable above the surface.
