Our caterpillar has finally transformed into a beautiful monarch butterfly. Inside the chrysalis, one of nature's most amazing transformations took place as the parts of the caterpillar rearranged into a butterfly.
A day before opening, the colours of the butterfly became visible.
That night the chrysalis opened, and the newly emerged butterfly pumped up and unfolded his new wings and by morning was ready for a sunbath and drink of nectar before beginning his journey south to Mexico.
(The two dark spots on the hindwings tell us he is a male)
