Guys can subterranean termites found a colony through workers alone. I’m planning to start a colony by collecting a large amount of termite workers by using a trap from this video ( ) but it’ll probably only catch workers and not nymphs. Can a colony fragment produce reproductives through workers alone or are nymphs essential?

I know this is an old topic. But I still want to answer in case people read this later.

No you don't need nymphs. Workers can, if the conditions are right, also become ergatoïds. In some cases, workers can also molt in primairy reproductives (alates) in this case, the workers are than called pseudergates (false workers). This is dependent on the species of termite in question.
