[Aussie Dan]

Howdy all, My name is Dan, I live in Tasmania (The little rock under Australia). I have only recently become an ant addict (3 months or so) but have always been interested, Esp in dangerous critters, In the past I've had a blue ring octopus, Reptiles, Spiders, Scorpions, ect ect. The things ppl don't usually keep as pets. So when i found a colony of Jack jumpers in my yard i couldn't resist. Now i'm almost a full time ant keeper, lol. Currently i have

* Myrmecia Pilosula - Colony

* Myrmecia Fulvipes - Colony

* Myrmecia Fulvipes - Queen

* Pony Ant, Rhytidoponera cf. tasmaniensis - 2x colonys

* Spiny Ant, Polyrachis (Campomyrma) sp. - 2x Queens

* Sugar Ant, Camponotus hartogi - Colony

* Sugar Ant, Camponotus hartogi - Queen

* Pale-legged Sugar Ant, Camponotus claripes-group - 2x Queens

* Camponotus claripes-group (Unknown) - 4x queens, 2 with workers

* Southern Michelin Ant, Amblyopone australis - Colony

And 2 other unknown colony's, Info in Tassie seems to be limited. Happy to be here and hopefully you can all teach me a thing or 5.

Welcome. That's quite a list of ants for just three months.

Thanks, Yeah i had a good run finding them, And have spent allot of time at it. I'm still researching allot of them, and don't wan't to neglect them. All the colony's except 1 were brand new when captured, All the queens are in test tubes. So they are small colony's. I've been doing a bit of research into what we have here so i guess watching them allot has made it easier to find the queens, Although i have been lucky.

I'm just saying that they aren't exactly beginner species. They tend to be picky with food and such.

Ah ok. Thanks. I actually let a few of the caught nests go the other day, They were included with a fear of killing them accidently. maybe down the track, But for now i'm going to concentrate on my others, there's still a few, lol.
