3. Residential sidewalk

4. 8 mm

5. dark brown reddish body with a darker gaster slightly fuzzy

6. two nodes oval gaster slender thorax

7. Some queens were found being pulled or corralled by workers

 

I don't think much description is necessary here as I'm 90 percent that these are solenopsis invicta. I just wanted to be sure. It's depressing to me how easily i find these guys (iv'e found up to a dozen in an hours walk). I don't want to keep a non-native species so these will just be thrown back outside if they are indeed RIFA. Luckily the queen in my last post is doing well but i've had three test-tube setup colonies fail on me already. I've only found 4 queens other than these.

I love Solenopsis invicta—pretty easy to rear in captivity, and they grow quickly!  Looks like what you have there.

S. Invicta. Make sure you bought enough Tylenol.
