Sugar Ant Major and Minor Scouting

I saw this funny scouting pair the other day. The minor is touching the back of the major to push the major along and the major stops every short distance until the minor touches her again.

Seems like the ants are exhibiting a behavior known as tandem running where one worker guides the other worker via physical contact.

Yeah, the Pheidole in the conflict zone with black meat ants also uses similar method. The minor touches the major and the major turn into hulk mode. Maybe there is a switch somewhere?
