Backyard wooden fence hiding behind ivy, 20230709, 3 to 4mm, brownish/reddish thorax, white and black striped abdomen, nest unknown

 

I originally thought they were carpenter, but I haven’t seen it with this design.

These are some nasty critters. I got bit/stung and left a real nasty mark. My guess is I should rid of these and look for something less aggressive to start on?

I'd say they are definitely not beginner ants. To my knowledge they don't sting but they do have a strong bit. they probably grow too fast for beginners.

I would say they are an incredible species to keep, but they are definitely not for beginners. I would recommend them later on but not right now.
