What I found works best is the dumping method

But I try to keep my colonies in test tube set up for as long as possible. I highly recommend Ants Canada test tube portal to bridge from test tube to formicarium.

I have raised countless successful colonies this way.


Has this been your experience with Myrmecocystus species as well?

I have raised many many different species of ants pretty much most species here in the USA

I've done this with plenty of Myrmecocystus colonies. They'll be fine.

Yeah, I’ve seen mention of it by very experienced ant keepers. Sounds safe, although intimidating.

You don't want to dump honeypots though, the replete(s)' and/or queen's gaster may burst.

This video it the correct way to move them, that's how I moved mine.

True, but I was referring more to founding queens.

The process of moving repletes honestly looks fun!
