There's probably already a thread for this but I decided to start a new one because maybe people have changed their answers. After getting pheidole dentata, I kind of had everything I wanted, until I lifted a few rocks in TN and found campnototus chromaiodes colonies. I would love to get a queen of this species. Their color is so cool. Another golden ant I use to keep when I was a beginner but died was pheidole tysoni.

Luckily for you, Camponotus chromaiodes are probably the easiest species to find in MD. They fly first and at a very specific time. Unfortunately, that time has passed this year.

I got 4 this year in MD!

For me basically any Pheidole species I can get my hands on is amazing, I'd also love to keep Camponotus subbarbatus

Any kind of cryptic species would be worth it for me. I’d like to look for Proceratium and Strumigenys this season, and maybe Stenamma as well. I would go for Stigmatomma if their brood development didn’t take so long. I do have access to the centipedes they require though. Here in the Bay we also have Cyphomyrmex wheeleri, which apparently fly next month.

Same for me. I would like to have Ponera pennsylvanica, Strumigenys, or Hypoponera opaciator.

Acromyrmex versicolor or honeypots for sure. The annoying thing is that they are both expensive to buy, but from reading journals, it seems like a lot of people have issues with them. I don't want to waste my money on ants that might die right way, especially with my track record with camponotus. I am just waiting for a good rain out in near Joshua Tree to catch some myself.

Just had a Proceratium queen land on me today while delivering my route.

In Virginia, I'd want to keep A. mariae, D. smithi, T. texanus, and T. tuscaloosae. I'd also like to keep T. americanus again.

I would like to keep trachymyrmex sp. in New York, I don't care what species.
Keeper of:
Camponotus castaneus | 20-25 workers
Tetramorium Immigrans | 1,000+ workers (yes I gave them a brood boost don’t be salty!)
Aphaenogaster Rudis | 16 workers
Pheidole bicarinata | 50-60 workers

Ants are just better.

But at least better than having no fungus growing ants.

I can see why Pheidole are such a sought-after species. Polymorphic, cool-looking majors, bulky looking queens, usually grow fast, I can't find a single reason not to like them.

yea, but for some reason I can't find a single frickin queen. The queens I want never seem to fly when I'm around and the ones I don't need more of are swarming my face every time I step out the door. I was anting a day ago looking for Solenopsis but didn't find any. However, I was getting attacked by Lasius niger queens the whole time (all of which I stupidly caught because I'm going to let them go anyway). The problem is that I already have like 230 queens of the same species, now I'll need an extra closet to keep them all (but as I said, I'm not keeping them because my parents would kick me out the house if they found out that there were 600 queens in the house ).

I also have wayyyyyyy too many ants. I feel happy with the ants I have now but then I see a queen is a cool speices and I have to collect them all. In total me and brother have 20 colonies and some queens. And many I want to keep. I got fruit flies so that will help with protein. I forgot to add this in my first post but I also want all unique cryptic ants, needle ants, dolichoderus mariae, Lasius brevicornis and neoniger, trachymyrmex septentrionalis, and Aphaenogaster tennesseensis.
