I have a very small budget for ants but I have many colonies what are growing fast. What are some cheap effective formicariums, they don't need to look good just work. I know you can construct your own but I can't find a good seller of ytong or gypsum. What other materials are easy to get and use to make ant farms?

I've seen their Formisquarium but how are they hydrated and how effective are they?

I would make some tubs and tubes setups. They are cheap and fun to make. All you need is sand, a container, an Ant barrier and the colony in a test tube.

There is a small hole that is hydrated with a syringe. Definitely a great quality shop. The mini formisquarium is an awesome founding nest.

You can keep huge colonies in big tubs with multiple test tubes. I also highly recommend not collecting more queens/ colonies than you can realistically care for. A few well cared for colonies is a lot more rewarding than a ton that you can barely keep up with.

I only have 8 colonies I might keep and a few I am selling or releasing. The ones I might keep are mostly still founding. Two of them are in naturalistic formicarium so they will stay in there for three time being. I just need some for the growing colonies from test tubes and my larger Camponotus Castaneus, and Pheidole Tysoni colonies. I will be using tubes and tubes. I bought the summer bundle for formisquariums.

PM utah ants. He makes very affordable custom nests.
