I thought this could be helpful for new ant keepers.

I have been fooling around with a handheld microscope recently, and got some footage of my Tetramorium bicaranatum colony.

I T.bicaranatum, the queens can be harder to spot from the workers, a good opportunity for a "quiz" to new keepers.

Sorry for the lower quality, but pictured below is a queen and worker of my Tetramorium bicaranatum colony.

Can all you new ant keepers tell which one is a queen, and which is just a worker? It may help with telling queens apart from workers when anting.

Man I really want these guys. How did you get these. Have you found that they alates mate in nest.

It depends where you live. I caught mine under a rock, but I am in Cali. My colony is young, they have 2 queens that haven't inbred yet.

I live on Long Island NY and there really is one sighting on the island. There are several in the general city area (though I am definitely not going to the city to look for ants). I hope that there is a chance I might be able to catch them this year.
