Does anyone know if Camponotus is still flying in California? I haven't found any yet.

I think summer camponotus is still flying after rain in the desert, but most aren't flying anymore.

Some Camponotus S. Str. species (laeivssimus, modoc, novaeboracensis) can and will still be flying in the Sierra Nevadas and some "semitestaceus-complex" species will fly in mid- to late-summer across most of California, not just desert areas. Plenty of flights continue and are far from over, you just have to go find them.
