Are these Brachyponera chinensis because if so I see why people making a big deal out of them they were everywhere and dominating most of the diversity. These and lasius.

Looks a lot more like Forelius pruinosus
The overall shape looks more like Forelius to me.
Its definitely dorymyrmex grandulus. No pruinosus morph is THAT dark.
The pruinosus throughout Florida and most of the southeast are this dark. I wouldn't be surprised if these dark "coastal plain" pruinosus are also present in Long Island given that several other primarily southeastern ants live there.
