I am a new prospective ant keeper. I am currently researching species and ant care before buying a formicarium and ants etc. I am wondering if I really need to have an outworld. I like to keep my house clean and my thought was that I was going to hang my formicarium on a wall. But now I am reading through this forum and it seems that an outworld is pretty much essential for feeding, cleaning, etc. Do I really need one? Someone please explain.

Yes, an outworld is absolutely essential once the colony reaches a certain size. For neatness, why not put a shelf on the wall with your nest and outworld? That’s what I do. Alternatively, look at the vertical nest designs from Tar Heel Ants. They are very neat looking and space efficient.

Yeah an outworld is absolutely necessary. As drew said, I would look into Tar Heel Ants nests as unlike most formicarium brands they come with an outworld already attached.

Antstore has these nests which you can mount on the wall.

They look gorgeous (like most things from Antstore), however, yes, you need an outworld. You could have a small single shelf in the middle and have an outworld on there and connect the wall- nests to it.
