very small!
Queen about 5-6 mm
Workers about 2 mm
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture:
black, with lighter stripes on the gaster
6. Other features:
Lots of brood produced (even during the winter at 60F). Workers are most active during the day.
9. Nuptial flight time and date:
queen was collected on a sidewalk, presumably at the time of flight, so mid-June
I'm currently moving this colony from their test tube to a mini-hearth setup. If anyone can offer an ID, even just to the level of the genus, I'd appreciate it. TIA!
