So, as some know, there is an Odontomachus specimen floating around that was apparently collected from California. After a couple visits to the LACM, I found the specimen hidden among the Odontomachus clarus specimen tray. All of the information I have about the specimen is that R.R. Snelling had examined it and determined it to be a mislabel, which is why it was never included in his publications. In addition, both R.R. Snelling and G.C. Snelling have done surveying of the area in hopes of locating workers, but efforts proved futile. I believe the specimen to be a mislabel as it's far from any locale that I would expect Odontomachus to occur in. However, if they did exist in the area, they are long gone due to urbanization. Just to note, the species identification should be O. desertorum, not O. clarus.
