California is notoriously picky about  non native arthropods coming in to the state. Additionally it is apparently listed as threatened as a result I rather suspect it would not be a legal species to keep.

There is other species of Predatory beetles, and Carabidae legal to keep in California, like Pasimachus

Pretty sure most insects can be transported across state lines with ants being a major exception. Shops like BugsInCyberspace sell without needing permits.

Correct me if I’m wrong though, I don’t know too much about the laws regarding non-ants in America.

You're quite wrong Manitobaant, I'm afraid. Almost all interstate transport of arthropods is regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS)' Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) Division, per the Plant Pest Act of 2000.

However, in this case, I suspect that the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is more likely to object than the federal PPQ folks. https://www.cdfa.ca....itsandregs.html

That would be the place to start, if you ask me. That said, looking for in-state options is a lot easier and frankly more likely to be successful.

As this species is federally listed, they would need CITES permits to ship across state lines. Also, they would need proof that the specimens were captive bred, or hold a Recovery Permit.

The penalties for federal ESA violations are likely much more serious than those for shipping ants across state lines without USDA permits. Just my 2 cents.
